Artist Statement

My sculptures explore various aspects of biomorphism, or the incorporation of natural forms into my work, expressed as either preserving certain inherent characteristics of my raw materials, or creating shapes or structures of my own that I see as being in synch or harmony in some way with their original makeup. My conceptual process of creating a particular sculpture begins by experimenting with a variety of materials including metal, concrete and wood.

I make my final selections based on the physical requirements necessary to materialize my vision. I consider each component part as a stand-alone whole, respecting the qualities it holds whether entirely natural or combinations of the natural with elements that are previously manmade. Lines, structural irregularities and surface textures are manipulated to express my thoughts and emotions of the moment, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the whole, thereby forming a connection or even a collaboration between human and organic processes.
